Eco Friendly Wood Floors

Hardwood Floors Bay Area and Marin

Looking for an eco friendly wood floor? Check for the certifying stamp to distinguish between "greenwashed" and genuine ecological forest products. Today, a growing number of timber producers and traders are making environmental claims. Some are accurate, but others are misleading or exaggerated. How can you, the consumer, distinguish a genuine ecological forest product from one that has been "greenwashed"? The answer is credible, independent certification for forestry and forest products. This is especially important in the case of rarer, exotic hardwood flooring.

THE CERTIFICATION PROCESS

Forest certification is a voluntary process that ensures consumers that the wood products they buy were grown and harvested in a way that protects forests for the long term. Certifiers assess the on-the-ground forest practices of a given operation against a stringent set of environmental and social criteria. Operations that meet those standards may identify their products as originating from a well-managed source. The certifier also tracks the "chain of custody" of the certified wood to ensure that it is kept separate from non-certified material at each stage of processing and distribution from forest to finished products

EcoTimber flooring is manufactured to the highest industry standards, with warranties that match the best in the business.

An EcoTimber floor is a healthy choice for you home. EcoTimber uses the least toxic finished and adhesives available. All of our products easily meet the rigorous E1 standard for indoor air quality and have been chosen based on years of research and experience.

Wood Flooring International feels strongly that  wood is the environmentally correct flooring  material choice.  With our original roots in  logging and sawmilling in Vermont - all on  reforested lands, we have an extensive background in  working wood.  We take the view that wood is  essentially a renewable carbon sink. Utilizing solar  energy, the process of photo-synthesis takes carbon  from the atmosphere and fixates it in a cellular  structure - wood.  This process is ultimately  renewable forever.
The core value of Upofloor's environmental philosophy is that we are ethically and ecologically responsible for our products at every stage of their life cycle. We focus on making our products and production methods as environmentally sound as possible.
We have implemented an ISO 14001 -based environmental standard as a part of our overall system of operations. The environmental part of this system affecting all company operations is certified in 2002.We participate in several recycling projects and strive to ensure an environmentally safe future.
BR-111 manufacturers hardwood flooring only from timber that is selectively harvested under the principles of sustainable forest management. Each tree is assessed for age and condition. Older trees, often susceptible to disease, are removed first, assuring that valuable resources are not left to waste away on the forest floor. After timber is harvested, multiple trees are replanted fostering sustainable forest practices and completing the reforestation process.
In order to produce this ecologically sound product, we carefully customized our purchasing of raw material. This unique selection procedure has enabled the elimination of waste in the processing of raw material and has thus decreased pressure on our hardwood resources.

Along with beauty and durability, the natural characteristics of wood and an environmental understanding of the raw material resources are of great importance to Swedes in general and Berg & Berg in particular.

With this philosophy in mind, Berg & Berg is progressively changing their complete flooring product line to FSC-certified woods. The FSC certificate guarantees higher environmental and social standards for forest cultivation and management. Additionally, as world-wide leading producers of oil-finished floors we have been awarded the Natureplus Certificate. This is the symbol for environmentally friendly and healthy products throughout Europe.
